The Classic Bars of New York
New York is home to many unique bars, and you can learn about their stories in a book called "The History And Stories of the Best Bars of New York," written by Jef Klein.
The book covers many of the most famous (and infamous) bars, most of which have a history as colorful as New York itself. There are Irish pubs, speakeasies, and historic places like Fraunces Taven in lower Manhattan, where George Washington addresssed his troops. You'll also find:
* McSorley's Old Ale House
* the Ear Inn
* Peter McManus
* the 21 Club
* The Oak Room (where Dorothy Parker held court)
* the White Horse Tavern (where Dylan Thomas basically drank himself to death)
I heard about the book last week in an interview with the author on a program from WFUV, the radio station of Fordham University (you can stream the interview here.)
Sounds like a fascinating book for anyone interested in the many historic bars of New York City.
