Celebrate Mexico Now in New York



Celebrate Mexico Now is a festival of that country's arts and culture that's taking place in a number of cities in the U.S. New York City is certainly getting its fair share, with events taking place starting today and running through Sept. 16th.

Following are a few highlights of New York's Celebrate Mexico Now; you can find more at the festival's official Web site (at bottom of this post).

Celso Duarte, Wednesday, Sept. 5th, at Joe's Pub
An internationally recognized harp virtuoso, Duarte will be playing with a talented group of Mexican musicians and jazz players. Shows at 7:30pm & 9:30pm.

Gems of Maya History: Four UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Thursday, Sept. 6th, 7pm
A presentation by experts in Mayan history about four of the most important ancient cities in Mexico.

Winners of the 2006 Morelia International Film Festiva, Friday, Sept. 7, 7pm
Screening of winning selections from the 2006 Morelia International Film Festival, followed by a Q & A with two of the filmmakers.

A Taste of Michoácan, Monday to Saturday, Sept. 10-15, 5pm
A special dinner featuring traditional cuisine from the Mexican state of Michoacán.
