NYC's Central Park Film Festival

New York City has been the setting for many movies over the years, and Central Park has been featured in no small number of these. In August you can see the Park and other New York City locations on the big screen in the great outdoors, in the Park itself, at the FREE Central Park Film Festival.

Running from August 21 to 25, the festival celebrates the City and the Park that has played roles in many films. This goes all the way back to being a backdrop in the 1908 silent version of Romeo and Juliet, according to the Central Park Conservancy, which notes that the Park has played a role in more than 200 films. In just the last year Central Park has been the site of scenes from Spider-Man 3, The Nanny Diaries, and Enchanted.

A few of the films featured in this year's Central Park Film Festival:

8/21 - Stayin' Alive with John Travolta, the sequel to Saturday Night Fever
8/22 - The Out-of-Towners, the madcap 1970 comedy with Jack Lemon and Walter Matthau
8/23 - Kramer vs. Kramer, the Oscar-winning family drama with Dustin Hoffman
8/24 - Madagascar, the animated family film
8/25 - viewer's choice - you get to vote for one of three favorites: Barefoot in the Park, The Way We Were, or Hitch
