Rock Concerts in a Swimming Pool? Yes, in NYC
It's not as far-fetched as it sounds, actually. McCarren Park Pool is a huge swimming pool in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn, and it has served as the host for a series of rock concerts the last couple of summers.
To answer your questions: Yes, it really is a swimming pool--or was in the past. And no, the pool is not filled with water during the concerts.
McCarren Park Pool was, in fact, one of a number of public pools built during the Depression years (it was dedicated by Mayor Fiorella LaGuardia), and was designed to hold six or seven thousand swimmers. So it's a good-sized venue for an outdoor concert.
There are free movies and free concerts, as well as the for-pay concerts. Below is the lineup of concerts for which you can buy tickets. Check the Web site (link in first sentence or at end of post) for additional shows that may be added and for information on how to buy tickets.
