The American Museum Of Natural History

Located on 79th street and Central Park West and easily within reach of public transportation, the museum first impresses you with its grand facade and the famous statue of Teddy Roosevelt on horseback in front of the entrance steps, framed by the magnificent statue capped greek columns on either side of the main entrance.  Entering you are  struck by presence of the dinosaur fossil exhibit in the main hall, towering over you as you take in the sheer size of the space inside.

An entire day is not enough time to enjoy everything that the museum has to offer, and the best way to approach the museum is as a fascinating geographic locale more than an interior space, there is just so much to see, so many exhibits to study and mull over, so many details that you can easily miss the first, second or even third visit.

I highly recommend the Anne and Bernard Spitzer Hall of Human Origins, a fascinating and revealing look the origins of the human race, as well as the universally popular (especially with the kids) Fossil Halls, if you only visit these two areas of the museum you will have got your money's worth.
