The Staten Island Ferry
The most inexpensive and romantic way to begin or end a date. The Staten Island Ferry is free, absolutely free, gratis, no charge---your money is no good here! The trip, under any but the stormiest conditions (and depending on your particular personality type, even then!) is a wonder. The trip out from Manhattan's downtown to Staten Island covers such a wide stretch of water that you had might as well be crossing open ocean, you have the stirring breeze, the smell and taste of salt water spray, and the gentle, or occasionally not so gentle rocking of the ferry under your feet.  A couple can easily find a quiet spot on these large stately vessels to canoodle to their hearts content, the nautical sights and sounds, the sudden absence of urban noises heightening the excitement and thrill of being together.
The ferries are beautiful and fun to explore, the best times to ride being in between the daily rush hours during the week, and of course on the weekend. There are food and drink concessions, and of course restrooms, and you may move freely between decks. There are an unlimited number of opportunities for memorable photographs.
Every year the Anchor Club and the employees of the Staten Island Ferry volunteer their time to provide handicapped people in the Metropolitan area a chance to ride onboard the Ferry. This year's boat ride will be held on Saturday, July 9th.
