SoHo - Prince Street eats under 10 bucks! Burgers or Thai? Featuring Peep and The Cub Room.
If you work in Soho, like me, you know that it's impossible to spend less than ten dollars on a lunch, or is it? There's endless crappy deli's, Mcdonalds, and even that will cost over ten dollars. Usually it's one extreme or the other, crappy expensive diners and delis or really expensive posh places that take a million years to eat at! It seemed like there was no happy medium, until we decided to try a few places on Prince Street.
Two places to check out.
The Cub Room / PEEP
To get to both PEEP and The Cub Room walk from the Spring Street C or E subway entrance, take McDougal street and make a right on Prince, walk up one block and it will be on the left hand side of the street.

"Peep in to this place"
Don't be fooled, this place is hard to find if you don't know what to look for. It truely is a diamond in the rough. It is literally about two stores past The Cub Room. The front doors seem mirrored but once they are open, you are embraced in a secret Thai hotspot. The walls are mirrored in this restaurant corridor with pink lit floors and an open kitchen in the back.
For lunch, at about seven dollars, you can eat in style. Guests have one free appetizer with their main course and they are out of this world. I ordered the spring rolls, of course, with the Ginger Chicken. The Ginger Chicken comes in a gigantic bowl with rice and veggies. On the menu there is a choice of protein: Beef, Tofu, Chicken or Shrimp then you can order it in any sauce Pad Thai, Ginger, Sesame, and so on. The appetizer list is substantial and there is so much to choose from! Spring rolls, chicken dumplings, green tea soup, every choice is a win and that is precisely why you need to check this place out. Be forewarned, they get you on the drinks. The Coke/Diet Cokes come in the glass bottles at $3 a pop. Even if you indulge, two sodas and your meal will run you $12.
The Cub Room
This place looks like a pre-war 40's style restaurant. When you enter, you are embraced by a solid wooden interior with massive windows that gaze upon the Prince Street scene. Yet another Prix Fix lunch at only $7.99 you can't go wrong! The menu offers a soup/salad with a main dish. These dishes are pretty basic in theory, but when they are presented you are taken back by the beauty of this meal. Hand Cut french fries hugging a massive cheddar cheese burger with vanilla scented onions on top. That's all I have to say. For less than ten dollars you can choose a roasted turkey sandwich, the Cub burger, penne pasta, a grilled chicken sandwich with roasted peppers and mozzarella on top and more. Check it out for yourself, you'll want to come back.
