The Restaurant at the Alex Hotel, midtown west
This Japanese restaurant has an interesting and tasty small selection of Japanese fusion plates. The seafood is done well, but the portions are small and decorative. Appetizers have eye appeal.  Great spot to share appetizers in the front lounge area, or eat at the bar.Â
The waitstaff is cordial at first, but generally unknowledgeable and each time I have been there, there has always been a different bartender, each recommending a different trendy Japanese (read: sake or fruit-flavored) cocktail that is usually as stylized as it is strong. If you are looking for subtle flavoring and nuance and sophisticated blending of tastes, then this bar is probably not for you.Â
