Miles and miles of books
Are you a bibliophile who grows weary of the limited variety you find in major bookstores? Do
you love great books at discount prices? Look no further than Strand Bookstore. It's motto is, "18 Miles of Books" and they don't disappoint in the least. It's been a New York City staple since it's inception by Benjamin Bass in 1927, taking its name from the famous publishing street in London. The store is a magnet for book lovers from all walks of life, from
college students to art lovers. Even the collectors' appetites are satisfied here by their Rare
Book Room, touted as the largest such collection in the city.
The prices are definitely a steal in some cases; for example, a recent compilation of Muhammad Ali's quotes and quips can be had for $18.95, a 25 percent markdown from the
list price at other retailers. For a 608 page book, count me in! They also offer gift cards and
sell a lovely tote bag with their logo for all of you seeking unique gifts. Strand now has three
locations in New York City. Their flagship location is at the corner of 12th Street and Broadway in Union Square. The Annex is located right near the South Street Seaport at 95
Fulton Street, also a stone's throw from the Financial District. There's also a kiosk located
right at Central Park, which opens seasonally across from the Pierre Hotel from April to December at 60th St. and 5th Avenue. Whatever your reading pleasure, Strand Bookstore
will satisfy it!!
