Buffalo Culinary Experiences

My husband and I were at two tried and true eating establishments today , one for breakfast, the other, dinner. As always, both fantastic.

Breakfast was Sharon's Apple Dumpling Diner, a bit off the beaten track at 2466 Elmwood Avenue. It's technically in Kenmore, but right on the Buffalo border on a main thoroughfare. Sharon is the owner and the main cook, making her homemade recipes for excellent breakfasts. I enjoyed her Apple Walnut Raisin Buckwheat Pancakes, complete with a cider-cinnamon syrup, and my husband the Turtle Pancake special with nuts, and both milk and white chocolate chunks baked in. Both dishes were great as usual. Sharon is a great host- customers feel at home soon after entering the unique atmosphere.

For dinner we headed to Marco's Italian Restaurant, located at 1085 Niagara Street, right near the Peace Bridge (that's the bridge to Ft. Erie, Canada) entrance. Again, a very friendly place near a very Italian neighborhood. Entrees have a wide range in price; sandwiches $5- $9.50, Full pasta meals in the teens, and the portions are gigantic (my leftover Chicken Cacciatore will last for 2 more meals). The sauce has a hint of sweetness, and is quite authentic. They also have pizza and wings and a children's menu with nothing priced over $5. Marco's also houses an Italian deli with a wide range of sandwiches (written as "Sangwich" on the menu), soups, salads and custom party platters. Check their website for a complete menu and an invite to email for a coupon. Wow, I'm still full...
