Excavating Egypt at the New Mexico Museum of Art in Santa Fe

Excavating Egypt has come to the New Mexico Museum of Art in Santa Fe. Its opening day was Sept. 1 and it'll run through Jan. 6, 2008. Santa Fe is privileged to be one of only six venues for the exhibit's 2005-2008 tour of the US. It features about 220 artifacts unearthed by Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie over a period of 50 years of work.

A great collection in a beautiful space. The New Mexico Museum of Art in Santa Fe is downtown on the northwest side of the Plaza at 107 W. Palace Avenue.

The display is spread over several rooms and definitely shown to advantage.

Afterwards the rest of the Museum is your playground. Beautiful art and beautiful surroundings. Hang out in the courtyard a bit and enjoy the sunshine and fresh air between jaunts through the museum.

The gift shop is filled with Egyptian goodies which you'll find mostly "made in Egypt" instead of cheaply packaged "made in China" replicas.

The charge for admission varies based on whether one is a New Mexico resident or not, student or not, senior or not, etc. Figure on Museum admission (somewhere between $6 and 8) PLUS $5.00 for the special show.

Make your own great discovery and visit the exhibit, you'll be glad you did.
