Dance to the Beat of Santa Fe's 8th Annual Thirsty Ear Festival

This weekend (Aug. 31 through Sept. 2) Santa Fe has been playing host to the Thirsty Ear Festival out at the Eaves Movie Ranch. They call it New Mexico's premier roots music festival.

A long weekend packed with great music including folk, blues, alt-country, cajun, bluegrass and rock playing on three stages. It's the 8th annual this year and features The Flatlanders, Beausoleil, Robert Earl Keen, South By Southwest, Rosie Ledet & the Zydeco Playboys, Joe Louis Walker and the Bosstalkers, Guy Davis, Richard Johnston, Tio Jalapeno, Higher Ground, don't forget Taj Mahal and many more.

In addition to the music there's also kid's activities, BBQ food and educational demonstrations, also nearby camping. Prices vary on admission dependent upon whether you're planning on a two day pass, a member pass, a one day pass or got the tickets early. On Friday there was special admission: $1.00 plus two cans of food or $10 without food for the opening night food drive.

Tickets are available at the door, online and at the Lensic Box Office in Santa Fe at 211 W. San Francisco Street. Kids under 12 get in free.

There are also demonstrations, crafts, lots of healthy food to eat, local microbrews on hand and fine local wine, even some dance lessons.

A great way to spend the Labor Day weekend!

Just go south out of Santa Fe on Cerrillos Road until you go under the I-25 overpass at which point you're offically on Highway 14.  Keep going south on Highway 14 toward Madrid.  Continue on Highway 14 about 6.7 miles past the Allsups stoplight at the junction of Hwy 599 and Hwy 14. Turn right at big festival sign onto County Road 45. Proceed 1.1 miles to Rancho Allegre Road and turn left. Go 0.6 miles to festival parking and there you are.
