Santa Fe's Fantastic Pizza

There are several exceptional pizza places in Santa Fe, but the hands down favorite time after time is Upper Crust.

They've been there since 1979 right on Old Santa Fe Trail a couple of blocks off the Plaza.

Begin on the Plaza, follow Old Santa Fe Trail South past La Fonda Hotel, jog slightly left and walk a block past Inn At Loretto, cross Alameda at the stoplight, and the river, and then walk another block south and Upper Crust will be on your left.

Food there is great.  They offer sandwiches for vegetarians and meat-eaters.  Check out their menu on their website for details on those sandwiches.

Also available - in the drink department - are beer and wine, softdrinks, iced tea, milk and more.

But the best is the pizza for which they're famous.  They offer free delivery if you want.  And they offer such specialty pizzas as their Greek with feta cheese, kalamata olive, bell peppers, onions and garlic wich is really great on the regular white crust.  The smell, when it's brought to your table or delivered tickles the nose and wakes up the taste buds.

There's a Vegetable Specialty that comes piled high with a wide assortment of veggies including the inevitable Santa Fe Green Chile which we put on pretty much everything.  Very tasty with a robust, earthy combination of veggies and a sprinkle of sesame seeds for crunch.

There are more Specialty pizzas or you can build your own from the  many offerings on their menu.

One of my personal favorites is a combination of pineapple and green chile.  May sound a bit scary to some, but yum! The sweetness of the pineapple combined with the spicy zip of the green chile is delicious.

They're open seven days a week.  Hours are 11:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. weekdays and 11:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m. weekends. In the summer it's every day 11:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m.  Inside or patio dining.

There's a very small parking lot behind Upper Crust accessed by way of a narrow driveway right beside the building.  Use caution entering as someone may be exiting.

Or if it's after business hours (usually after 5 p.m. or on weekends) you can park across the street in a state parking lot marked by the raised bars that would normally block your entrance during week day business hours.

Check it out.  If you're a pizza lover you'll be back.
