Santa Fe's Indian Market - Aug. 17-19
This is one HUGE event!
Yep, it's that time of year again! Santa Fe's 86th annual Indian Market will be in full bloom this weekend on the Plaza.
The real action takes place right on the famous plaza when the actual Indian Market begins Saturday at 7:00 a.m. offering more than 1100 artists on and around the Santa Fe Plaza. It runs until 5:00 p.m. Saturday then opens again Sunday at 8:00 a.m. running until 5:00 p.m. But go early if you think you're going to buy and remember this is an expensive event even though just looking costs nothing.
And at 9:00 a.m. Sunday there's a Native American Clothing Contest onthe Plaza Community Stage right in the middle of things.
Prior to official opening excitement begins Friday with Indian Market's Best of Show announcement at 4:30 p.m. at El Museo Cultural de Santa e, 1615 Paseo de Peralta. This one is pricey ;Admission is $200 for for $250 and above Southwestern Association for Indian Arts members. Only 100 tickets will be sold.
That's followd at 5:30 p.m. with a sneak preview of award-winning art and silent auction. Located at same place as above and also for SWAIA members at the $250 level and above. But you can buy your membership at the door if you like.
A little advice: it's been hot right now. We're at 7,000 feet elevation. Drink lots of liquid, wear a nice broad-brim hat and slather on the sun block. Make sure you allow time for breaks and if you feel headachy and sick to your stomach, rest. If you push it hard you'll really feel rotten (probabaly have altitude sickness and/or heat exhaustion) and spoil your whole weekend.
