Albuquerque has a wonderful summer tradition of outdoor concerts at the Rio Grande Zoo on Friday nights and the Aquarium on Thursday nights. Bring a blanket and a picnic basket, and prepare to enjoy. The zoo exhibits stay open through the first half of the concert, allowing glimpses of animals aren't usually out in the heat of the day.

The music is varied and includes Cajun, Folk, Celtic, Blue Grass, Old Time Swing and Blues, and World Beat. This is a fun way to introduce kids to live music in a relaxed setting, as it is filled with families and there are opportunities to get up and dance or walk around.

Tickets are reasonably priced at $8 adults, $4 seniors & $2 children (3-12) and NMBPS members half-price. Gates open at 6:00, concerts start at 7:00. Get more info at www.cabq.gov/biopark or call 505-764-6200. The aquarium is at 2601 Central NW and the zoo is located at 903 10th SW.

Albuquerque has shopping that fits everyone's taste. There are malls packed full of stores like Dillards and Macys and Sears. Then there is the upscale outdoor mall, ABQ Uptown, with shops like Eddie Bauer and J. Jill. But what about the shopper who loves old bulidings with nooks and crannies that surprise them with treasures that will forever remind them of the day walking through Albuquerque when they felt the warm sun on their shoulders and tasted a real margarita with their New Mexican enchiladas. That shopper goes to Nob Hill on old Route 66. Nob Hill has it all, galleries, import shops, clothing, music, food and tattoos. So, visit Albuquerque, put on your walking shoes and make some discoveries on old Route 66.
