St. Patrick's Day in Reno

St. Patrick's Day should be an international holiday and we should all be able to stay home from work.  No wait, the day AFTER St. Patrick's Day should be an international holiday and we should all be able to stay home from work.

Anyway, if you're looking to celebrate the occasion, Reno is certainly the place to be.  Well, other than Ireland.  First Ireland, then Reno.  There's always a bunch of ...

Wild River Grille

My boyfriend left town yesterday for three weeks, so the other night we went out for a little farewell dinner.  I wore my new heels; he wore a clean shirt.  Apparently he didn't get the memo on the evening's dress code.  And where did he feel like eating?  "Someplace with good beer."  I like a low maintenance man.

My challenge was this: Taking into account our mismatched date night attire, as well ...

Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival

I admit it: I've been a slacker lately.  The summer has almost passed, and my postings have been few and far between.  My bad.  I'll do my best to post more frequently, but in the meantime, you should all know that you have only a couple more days to catch the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival before it wraps up Sunday, August 19th.  I know what you're thinking: Shakespeare???  I ...

Satellite: Chuck Ragan, Promises Promises and Black Year

Tuesday nights haven't been the same since Full House went off the air.  The Satellite Cocktail Lounge is doing something to remedy this problem, with a musical lineup that Uncle Jessie would be proud of.  On Tuesday, June 26th,  Chuck Ragan of Hot Water Music is bringing his acoustic solo show to the Satellite stage, with openers Black Year and ...

Barack Obama Speaks

I realize that this is horribly short notice, but if you're in Reno today, Barack Obama, democratic presidential hopeful, is speaking to the public at 12:30 at Wingfield Park on the corner of First and Arlington.  So if you're interested in politics (or the well-being of America), click here to order a free ticket.

Note: This is not a political endorsment, but rather an opportunity to get off the ...

Reno's Best Breakfast (Part I)

Ahhh breakfast.  The people's meal.  Who doesn't like potatoes and bacon and oatmeal with soy milk and blueberries and bananas and cereal with marshmallows that you can save until after you've eaten all of the oat bits and anything else that you can throw into a pan with a bunch of eggs and call a "scramble"?  Reno has some good breakfast places, so allow me to aquaint you with them...

Earth Day in Tahoe

April is Mathematics Awareness Month.  (I swear.  I Googled it).  Yet somehow amid the wild partying and celebratory flash card tournaments, mathematicians have graciously allotted the rest of us a day for which to acknowledge that other scientific phenomenon: Planet Earth.  Thus, we have Earth Day.

While the actual day itself has come and gone, Earth Day festivities are ongoing.  The Tahoe Truckee Earth Day Festival kicks off tomorrow night with the Patagonia Wild and Scenic Film ...

Reno Wine Walk (and Roll)

                                                                  wine walk

Next to Christmas, my birthday, the eight days of Hanukkah, the first day of summer and Free Scoop Night at Baskin Robbins, I can't think of another day I look forward to more than the third Saturday of each month, known to many as Wine Walk Day.

The Truckee River Wine Walk is an event organized by the Reno ...

Reno Tonight!

This one's a quickie, which sometimes, is just what the doctor ordered.

Tonight: At the Green Room, Sly Buford is going to take the stage along with CazRoc sometime around 10ish.  We all know shows never start when they're supposed to; just be there sometime after the sun sets but before your mom calls to ask what channel CSI is on again.  (Oh, like that never happens ...
