Earth Day in Tahoe

April is Mathematics Awareness Month.  (I swear.  I Googled it).  Yet somehow amid the wild partying and celebratory flash card tournaments, mathematicians have graciously allotted the rest of us a day for which to acknowledge that other scientific phenomenon: Planet Earth.  Thus, we have Earth Day.

While the actual day itself has come and gone, Earth Day festivities are ongoing.  The Tahoe Truckee Earth Day Festival kicks off tomorrow night with the Patagonia Wild and Scenic Film ...

Tonic: Keeping Reno Green Tonight

reno green

Tonic is throwing a fundraiser tonight for itself, a trend I started way back in elementary school when I tried to sell a bunch of my brother's toys without him knowing out of our gargage.  But we can talk about that some other time.  Basically, Tonic needs some new sound equipment, so they've recruited some of the best (and best looking) DJs to come in ...

Just a little blurb for all you book lovers: Dharma Books has recently opened a second location, at 310 S. Arlington Ave.  They specialize in rare, collectible, out-of-print books, so if you have a thing for the written word, go lose yourself here for a few hours.

Reno Wine Walk (and Roll)

                                                                  wine walk

Next to Christmas, my birthday, the eight days of Hanukkah, the first day of summer and Free Scoop Night at Baskin Robbins, I can't think of another day I look forward to more than the third Saturday of each month, known to many as Wine Walk Day.

The Truckee River Wine Walk is an event organized by the Reno ...

Reno Tonight!

This one's a quickie, which sometimes, is just what the doctor ordered.

Tonight: At the Green Room, Sly Buford is going to take the stage along with CazRoc sometime around 10ish.  We all know shows never start when they're supposed to; just be there sometime after the sun sets but before your mom calls to ask what channel CSI is on again.  (Oh, like that never happens ...

Party Planning Reno-Style

Working in a downtown Reno casino, I meet people everyday who've traveled many miles to celebrate that special something under the bright lights of the Biggest Little City.  Be it a wedding anniversary, a 21st birthday, a bachelor party or finally making parole (kidding!), Reno seems to be where it's at for celebrating on a budget.  Let me make this a little easier.

The big 2-1: Okay we get it.  You're ...

Ski.. . Quick!

Maybe the resorts shouldn't have even opened this season. I looove to ski and have been skiing since I could walk. I have skied all over the US & Canada and although the Tahoe resorts aren't necessarily the best terrain, nothing beats only having to drive 30 minutes to the mountain. Plus, you have your choice of 15 ski areas! Furthermore, if you have lived in ...

Best Date Restaurants in Reno

Until about 10 months ago, I was one of those "always the bridesmaid" type of gals; the perpetual single; matchmaker extraordinaire.  "Fiercely independent," I liked to tell myself.  Well let me tell you this: I am one fiercely independent woman who's gone out on a ton of first dates.  Here are the places I liked and would consider going back to--unfortunately I can't say the same about the men who took ...

Hungry? Great cheap places to eat!

Off the top of my head, here are a few great, yet cheap, places to eat in downtown Reno that aren't chains and aren't in casinos:

Beto's - authentic Mexican food.  Carnitas tostada & carne asada tacos are my favorite.  I also like the Wet Burrito when I'm feeling saucy.  Cheap and tasty.  575 W 5th St  - 775.324.0632.

JJ's Pie Company - right next to Beto's!  Great pizza, calzones, pasta ...
