Jazmine: Reno's Best Sushi

The only thing I hate worse than waiting for a table at a restaurant is waiting for a table at a restaurant on an empty stomach.  For this reason, I hope that all of you stop reading right here.  I hope that none of you take the advice I'm on the verge of dispensing for the sake of not only my own sanity, but for my boyfriend's as well, who will surely bear the weight of my frustration upon your taking of said advice.

Call it a fierce loyalty to my readers, call it plain guilt, but I'm going to tell you all something:  If you want sushi in Reno, you must go to Jazmine.  There.  I said it.

My friends and I first heard about Jazmine not long after its recent opening.  At the beginning, it seemed like only we knew about the place.  It was as if we had discovered some magical Asian hideaway nestled amidst the baron South Reno landscape; the secret of its existence shared with only each other and the nimble-fingered chefs peering at us from beyond the glass, fish-filled cases lining the sushi bar.  We came often, we ate plenty and we told no one.  But sadly, it seems as though our secret is safe no more.

Sure, the wait to sit at the counter where all-you-can-eat sushi flows like wine (er-sake?) is still only about 10-15 minutes at the most, but when you've been starving yourself all day so you can indulge in glorious sushi-licious gluttony, those minutes count.  Still, it's worth every excruciating second of the wait.  We're talking roll after roll of sushi ecstasy, my favorite of which by far being the Jazmine Roll, a long roll with crystal shrimp, avocado, more fish (I don't make it, I just eat it) and crab on top.  But you know what?  It's all good.  Okay, I'll be honest, the Pink Lady has way too much tuna for my liking and a name that creeps me out, but after a few sake bombs, who really cares?

And for that friend of yours who's grossed out by the idea of eating raw fish (the same one who carries hand sanitizer in her purse) Jazmine also serves cooked food- a blend of Thai, Chinese and Japanese- in a really cool, modern, up-scale atmosphere, although I must admit that I have yet to venture into the dining room.  But it sure does smell good.

I agree! Great sushi. The all you can eat lunch special can't be beat and there is a neat atmosphere.
