Reno: The Bars Are Back In Town

There's something curious happening in downtown Reno.  Amidst the casinos and condominiums, a strange phenomenon has sent a new energy streaming through the city's veins:  The bar is back.

For years, Reno residents and tourists had few options when it came to having a good drink and a good time: casino or bust.  But with the opening of the Sierra Tap House on First Street last summer and Se7en Tea House on Arlington shortly after, the little guys are making it clear that small businesses can survive in the downtown marketplace and that thirsty patrons appreciate their efforts.

And now, bar crawlers can add another destination to their itineraries.  The Imperial Bar and Lounge, located on Arlington between First and Second streets, is gearing up for a big opening, which has been pushed back as a result of Mother Nature's recent dumping of the white stuff on The Biggest Little City.  Skiers may be happy, we drinkers not so much.  Still, it's sure to be worth the wait.  Promising wide-screen plasma TVs, 20-foot ceilings, comfy booths and banquets, it sounds like the old casino bar has some stiff competition in Imperial.  No clown-print carpet here baby.  And not only will patrons be able to choose from a plethora of pretty cocktails and beers on tap (as if that weren't enough), Imperial will serve food too!  That's right.  Had one too many at the bar?  No problem!  Soak it up with a thin crust pizza, or a panini sandwich, perhaps.  Even if alcohol isn't your reason for venturing into the newly re-energized downtown Reno, Imperial promises an entirely new experience for locals and travelers.  Check it out, I know I will.  In fact, I'll buy the first round.

I'm excited for Imperial to open. Everyday I take a glimse to see its progress. Maybe I'll join you for a drink or two!
