Nevada Nixes Smoking Criminal Penalties
Back in November, Nevada voters passed the Nevada Clean Indoor Air Act. The law banned smoking in most indoor places like restaurants, bars that serve food, and grocery stores (casino floors were exempt), and made those convicted of violating the law subject to criminal penalties. District Judge Douglas Herndon has announced today that the statute is too vague to prosecute criminally but that the civil penalties will remain intact. In public opinion polls, the majority agreed that the Nevada Clean Indoor Air Act will now be more fair for smokers and non-smokers alike.
