Red Rock Canyon, Lesser-Known Wonder
Burnt out on glitz and glamour? Take a drive. Take a hike. Take a gander at Red Rock Canyon National Conservatory, a spread of pure desert landscape replete with barrel cacti and wild burros, petroglyphs and views of the Mojave, all just 17 miles west of the Strip. Visitors enjoy horseback riding, bicycling, hiking, and picnicking, and even an interactive nature museum for the kids. Tell them to keep their eyes out for Mojave Max, the famous resident desert tortoise who creeps out from hiding every spring.
