Cupcake-It's in Mpls, but just over the border from St. Paul

I seldom go to Minneapolis, but when I do, I drive along University over through the campus and then across the Mississippi River on Washington Ave. Every time I drive that route, I see this great little coffeehouse/restaurant Cupcake. I finally got curious enough to stop there. (Besides, my daughter had said she and her fiance stopped there to check out their cupcake options for their wedding cake, and she ...

Chula Vista on Robert Street in West Saint Paul

The other day my family and I went for the second time in a month to Chula Vista Mexican Restaurant. (They have coupons, what can I say?!) Besides I love their food. I like their tradition, like many Mexican restaurants, of giving baskets of chips and bowls of salsa. Their chips are great and their salsa terrific. And, every meal the four of us had was yummy.

While we were there, ...

Herradura Boutique on Wabasha in St. Paul

I walked down to Wabasha Street a couple of weeks ago (on one of the really nice days before winter returned to our city for a couple of weeks!) to check out this little boutique I had seen every time I drove on Wabasha. Inside I found a very sweet woman who is running a cute combination boutique, insurance agency, travel agency and all around neighborhood shop.

Her shop has ...

Keys Cafe-7 Locations thru-out St. Paul

Keys Cafes, founded in 1973, now with 7 locations scattered throughout St. Paul, fittingly use Norman Rockwell restaurant and cafe pictures as symbolic of their good, downhome, American food. In my years in St. Paul, I have visited at least three of the locations and have been delighted with the food, the service, and the atmosphere each time.

You will be too. Go to www.keyscafe.com to discover the restaurant closest ...

Jerabek's New Bohemian in St. Paul

Ever since I first drove by Jerabek's when I first moved to this side of town, I have been fascinated with all that is going on there. On the corner of Winifred and Stryker, Jerabek's is a combination coffeehouse, restaurant, bakery, cool place to hang out, gift store, and vintage clothing and housewares boutique. I love going in there and checking out their bulletin board to learn what apartments in the ...

Minnesota State Capitol in St. Paul

I went to an event at the Minnesota State Capitol today. (It is the first time I have been in the Capitol since I was sworn in as a member of the bar way back in 1984 and maybe I am remembering that incorrectly!) The event today was "Eyes Wide Open"  an exhibit and a ceremony that presents a memorial to those who have been killed, injured, or otherwise adversely affected ...

The Village at Mendota Heights just south of St. Paul off Dodd Road

I went to get my hair cut today to the little Village at Mendota Heights and had a few extra minutes to check out the other shops in this cute, new little shopping center surrounded by condo and apartment complexes. I found The Sage Market and Wine Bar, The Wine Market, and E's Cheese. I was delighted!

The Sage Market and Wine Bar are an adorable food market and deli with ...

The Good Earth in Roseville north of St. Paul

If you are a vegetarian or if you prefer to have organic foods, one of the very best choices for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a snack just north of St. Paul off Highway 36 and Fairview Avenue across the intersection from Rosedale Shopping Center is the Good Earth restaurant (there's another one in Edina, but I have never been to that one).

I am my family and friends have been visiting ...

Boca Chica-Another Great Mexican Restaurant on Cesar Chavez Street on St. Paul's Westside

After church yesterday, I came home and got the book I am currently reading, (Norman Mailer's novel based on Adolf Hitler's childhood, The Castle in the Forest) and walked down the Wabasha Street stairs and went to lunch at Boca Chica's. I was too late to take in their Sunday buffet, unfortunately, but I had a super lunch. (half of which I brought home and will eat for lunch today!)

I ...

Fabulous Ferns in the St. Paul Blair Arcade Building

I have written before about sites within the Blair Arcade at Selby and Western in St. Paul, but I hadn't been all the way down to the end of the block to Fabulous Ferns in over 10 years so I didn't mention it before I made a point of going there for lunch so I could update my own memory about it. I did that about a week or so ...
