Join a Wild Rumpus of Reading in Minneapolis
Whenever I'm in the Linden Hills neighborhood of Minneapolis I always make sure to stop at Wild Rumpus, my favorite kids bookstore. From the child-sized door (don’t worry, there’s one for grown-ups too), to the pet rats beneath the floor, the place is magical. Friendly Manx cats freely wander the store, while the birds chirp happily in their cages. If you’re lucky you might see Elvis the chicken poking about. Don’t miss the fish tank behind the mirror in the bathroom—just turn out the lights and the aquarium will appear.
Aside from all the animals, Wild Rumpus has a story time to rival any library. Show up Mondays at 10:30 and get ready to be delighted by the staff’s expertise. They are also wonderful at helping customers select great books for children of all ages and interests. There is even a small but well chosen adult section.
Check the Wild Rumpus website for special events. Wild Rumpus holds book signings and other special events periodically. I once heard They Might be Giants play there, promoting their kids book Bed, bed, bed, which just goes to show you never know what you might find at the Wild Rumpus.
