Employment opportunities in the Lansing area
Whether you are looking for a temporary part-time job or seeking a full-time permanent position, Lansing has a lot of opportunities to offer.
If you live in the Lansing area and would like a temporary or part-time employment, check out a few of the following potential employers.
The first one that comes to my mind is Meijer, located 5125 W. Saginaw Hwy in Lansing. You can either visit their website at www.meijer.com and look for the Career link (top right of the screen) or you can apply directly in the store. Just to the right of the Tobacco and Lottery sale point, you will see computer stations that will allow you to fill out an application right on the spot. An average of 25 minutes will be needed for the completion of the questionnaire but you are then making yourself available for a variety of employment positions (either on the store floor or in their administrative office departments), flexible schedules and store employee discounts.
Other big stores such as Wal-Mart, Target or Lowes, all 3 of them located on W. Saginaw Hwy, will also give you the opportunity to submit your employment application using their computer stations. You can be sure to find available positions at any of these stores if you are looking to make a little extra income.
For those of you who are actually career-oriented and aspire for a long term commitment, you can find multiple business drives in the Lansing area that are either Insurance employers, bank employers or other administrative types of professions.
The first one that comes to my mind is located at the corner of Creyts Rd and Century Blvd, near I-496. On each side of this intersection you can see the potential as your eyes go from the Sheraton Hotel, the Coldwell Bank, Auto-Owners Insurance and more. On the right, you will see a sign naming the area as Capitol Commerce Center as you engage down Century Blvd then onto Centennial Way. You will notice the redundant theme of administrative and financial offices, all of which constitute employment opportunities for you to consider. Be prepared to drop off some resumes and complete a few employment applications at their front desks.
Nested at the end of Municipal way, just a few yards down Centennial Way, rests the home of another great prospect embodied in the Municipal Employee Retirement System of Michigan (MERS). MERS is an ever-growing public non-profit independent organization that administers retirement plans for municipal employees. You may be one of the lucky candidates to become a part of the MERS staff/family, as I am. To submit your applications and see what positions are currently available, feel free to visit the MERS website at www.mersofmich.com and select the Career Opportunity link, listed on the left side of the screen.
These little tips truly are a drop of water in the sea of employment opportunities the Lansing area has to offer. I would highly suggest that you visit www.michworks.com and click on the Job/Talent link to browse through hundreds of job openings. Nothing will come easy so arm yourself of patience during your search and you will see that in the end it will pay.
Happy hunting!
Karima.
