A four-star evening!
Hi everyone! My name is Megan and this is my first post here on the Boston Blog! I hope you enjoy!
The thing about Boston is that there's no end to the places you can go. I've lived near the city my whole life and I'm still discovering new things! Case in point - my friend Janet and I hit the city to celebrate the holidays on the Friday before Christmas. Boy did we have a great time!
We started at Sandrines, (which is technically in Cambridge, but just a short ride from the Hub). A very quaint french restaurant, Sandrine's cuisine was superb. Janet and I dined on a selection of appetizers (we call them tapas) including french onion soup, escarcot and a selection of the yummiest fois gras in the entire world. Yum!
After we filled up at Sandrines, we headed over to the Oak Bar at the Fairmont Hotel. Named as "Best Hotel Bar" by Boston Magazine, The Oak bar has the largest martini menu I've ever seen (and I've seen lots!) and it the place just oozes swank. Janet and I both had the Charles River Martini - named after the Charles River between Boston and Cambridge which is known for it's "dirty water." In fact, the Charles River is an icon for Boston and is featured in the song Dirty Water by The Standells. The martini was the best "dirty martini" I've ever had with tippity-top shelf vodka, chopped olives, cocktail onions and olive juice.
On a quest for some Ricard (Ricard is a popular brand of pastis - an anise-flavored liqueur - in France), we headed to yet another french restaurant, this time the Bar at Aujourd'hui. Unfortunately they did not have Janet's Ricard, but they had a similar anise-flavored drink that is destined to become her next flavor. I took advantage of Bubbly Bar Friday and had a glass of champagne while we nibbled on the best cheese plate in the entire world ! You have to try it! Stop by and tell Russell we said hi!
After Aujourd'hui, we were getting a bit tired, but I couldn't head home before having three bites of the best warm chocolate cake in Boston. And I'm not kidding, either. I've had quite a few warm chocolate cakes and this one at the Top of the Hub takes the cake (literally!)
