Offshore Powerboat Racing in Ocean City This Weekend
Pro Racing machines ranging from 500 horsepower "Production Class" boats to 4,000 horsepower multi-million dollar "superboats" reaching speeds over 150 miles per hour will be competing in six separate categories in Ocean City on June 17th, 2007.
Starting on Friday, June 15th at noon, you can head over to the Sunset Marina to meet the racing teams and view the powerboats. If you can't make it Friday, the boats will be on display again on Saturday, June 16th from 10 am to 6 pm. Teams from across the country are attending and AMF Offshore will be bringing their 44 foot and 39 foot turbine cats with speeds over 180 mph!
On Sunday, June 17th all the race boats will depart at 11:30 am in single file and head to the milling area in the ocean around 50th Street. The first race will begin around 12:30 pm. Boats will race from 4th to 40th Street for 7 to 10 laps. The start/finish line is 14th Street. The second race will begin around 2:30 pm and follow the same format. You'll be able to watch the races from the boardwalk or beach. Probably not a good time to go floating out too far from the beach in your rubber raft!
