The Fox That Calls Ocean City Home

sany0070.JPG

This little cutie has been living underneath a deck next to the Ocean City boardwalk for over ten years. We often get to see her when we visit my sister and brother-in-law who have a condo in that area. It's fun to watch people strolling down the boardwalk come to a complete halt when they spot the fox! It is such an unlikely place to see a creature of the wild. Why would a fox call an area surrounded by condos, hotels and throngs of people home? It may be she enjoys Thrasher Fries and Fishers Popcorn as much as the tourists do! Although Animal Control requests that people do not feed her, many people do, which probably keeps this gray fox from straying from her strange habitat.

We took this picture a couple of weekends ago. We were walking down the boardwalk and spotted her sunning herself in front of a house. She is shy and will run if you try to approach her, so observe her from a distance. The fox is well-known to residents and business owners and has never shown any aggressions towards people. Like the ocean, boardwalk, and amusements, this little gray fox is just one more attraction in Ocean City!

That's the cutest thing ever. I don't think I've ever seen her!

We have usually spotted her from 16th street north on the side of the Boardwalk. On a sunny day, look for her on steps or sandy areas sunning herself. At night she is often around 20th & 21st Street, where she has some friends that feed her well! Hope you get to see her next time you're in OC!
