Saturday, April 28th and Sunday, April 29th, 2007, the 13th Annual Maryland International Kite Festival and the Mid Atlantic Stunt Kite Championships will be held in Ocean City, Maryland. Featured events like mass ascensions, pairs precision, multi line ballet, kite making for kids, learn to fly a kite lessons, candy drops and attempts to break several world kiting records will make a weekend at the beach fun and exciting. I love watching the precision and ballet competitions.

One of the sponsors of the Kite Festival is the Kite Loft, “Where Fun Begins.” Be sure to stop at the Kite Loft at 5th St. and the Boardwalk while you're visiting Ocean City. The store is full of the most amazing kites, windsocks, chimes and toys. Thanks to the Kite Loft, Ocean City was named the Kite Capital of the World in 1988 by Governor William Donald Schaefer.

This is a great family event. My husband and I have attended every year since 1998. Our nieces and nephews have enjoyed making kites for free under their kids tents and also get excited about catching the candy from the candy drop. We always enjoy watching the skies filled with colorful, interestingly shaped kites. We will soon be taking our grandson now that he's 3 and able to join in on the events for kids.
