We had a great time at the parade! The kids each had a bag of candy and trinkets and a bunch of beads by the end!

Kids do love all the freebies they throw from the floats!

[...] Ocean City, Maryland has a big St. Patrick's Day parade every year. I'm not sure why they do this or what the history of it is. Did a lot of Irish folks settle in OC? Or is it just an excuse for a party? Inquiring minds want to know, but I've had no luck in finding information on the internet other than it's an annual tradition.. Because of the parade, off season rates aren't as low as the usual off season rates. Keep this in mind if you should get the urge to stay in OC during the off season. [...]

The St. Patrick's Day Parade is the primary fundraiser for the Delmarva Irish-American Club. Since they are a nonprofit organization all the money goes back into to the community. Mostly as scholarships to the local high school graduates.

Also I think it is a great way to get people to the beach in the off season to party!

Your pictures of Assateague and the beach are beautiful!

Will you be coming back to OC? Maybe I can help you find a better place to eat!

Thank you for the information. And for your compliments on the photos. We had a wonderful time in OC and Assateague.

How long has the parade been a tradition there in OC? I think it's great that it's a fundraiser. I'm sorry we missed it (we were slug-a-bugs that morning and took our time getting up and getting moving).

I don't know if we'll get back to OC anytime soon or not, but I sure hope so. A weekend just isn't long enough.

You've got me stumped there! I really have no idea how long they have been doing the parade...maybe someone else will have the answer...

Unfortunately, it was a very cold weekend in OC for St. Patrick's Day. You have to come back when it warms up a little more. We love the Spring and Fall seasons in OC. Less crowds, more food specials and no traffic!

Even though you missed the parade, I'm glad you made it to Assateague. : )
