Pilot Plan Gives Surfers a Designated Beach at Inlet
The City Council approved a pilot plan for a permanent surfing beach from the jetty to almost halfway to the pier (South Division Street). The approximately 400 foot area would be reserved for surfers Monday through Friday from May 26th to September 3rd, excluding busy holidays of July 4th and the Monday of the Labor Day Weekend. The beach would be open to swimmers only on the weekends. The restriction only applies to the water. The beach area will be open to visitors all the time.
There will still be two rotating beaches designated for surfers as well as the inlet surfing area this summer.
The program will be closely monitored by the Beach Patrol and Beach Patrol Captain Arbin will keep the council updated. At the end of the summer the council will decide whether or not to keep the inlet area a permanent surfing beach.
