The Admiral’s Cup holds one of the best locations in Fells Point, right on the corner where Broadway smacks into the water. It also has this weird box-like wood contraption at the foot of the bar. See, in the place of a rail, which most bars have at the bottom of the front of the bar, the bar at the Admiral’s Cup has a six inch piece of wood, creating a six inch deep box at the foot of the bar. My buddy surmised that once upon a time (hopefully not any more) the Admiral’s Cup may have been the kind of bar where you could urinate while drinking.

Japanese restaurants make me feel more civilized. It has to do with the concentration it takes for me to use chop sticks, the warm moist cloths brought at the beginning of the meal to wipe your hands with, the lack of paper napkins. Eating at Matsuri makes me feel special.

I think you have to be in America to sit at an outdoor table at a restaurant and stare at a parking lot and admire the view. It was a very nice parking lot, with lots of flowers in the medians and framed quite picturesquely by some chain restaurants and swiftly flowing streams of shiny vehicles, but ...

Ryan Gosling, star of The Notebook and the new movie Fracture, bears a striking resemblance to me. Actually, the girls that pointed this out to me said that I look like him, but I don't blame them for getting the order confused. I put nothing into this "you look like so-and-so" comment until a week later when...

You still have time. The Walters Art Museum in Baltimore will be hosting their Antoine Louis Barye exhibit “Untamed” until May 6th.

Barye had a way of piling animal bodies on top of each other that makes bronzes snarl with life, and the Walters shows them off well. Imagine a long rambling room of well displayed and lit bronzes, a frozen highlight reel of Animal Planet.

Looking for a place where you can eat scrambled eggs at 4am while surrounded by Pez dispensers and beheaded Barbie dolls? I mean... who isn’t?
The Paper Moon is Baltimore at it’s finest: absolutely weird, totally friendly, and without a shred of pretense. The joint is decked with toys, buttons, memorabilia and mannequin parts stapled, nailed and ...

Rafters has all the polish of a sailor at the end of a three day binge. When I asked for a shot of liquid cocaine, the bartender said “what the f*ck’s liquid cocaine?” He made me and my friends liquid heroine instead. That started off a lineup of shots including a Rafter’s special that tasted like Five-Alive and must have had caffeine in it because it kept my ...

If you’re uncomfortable in Fort Charles it’s because you brought it in with you, or perhaps because you don’t like cigarette smoke. I visit Fort Charles on weekdays for lunch and occasionally for a beer before work (I’m a bartender, I’m allowed to go to work with one beer down). I can’t say what the DJ’s play on Friday and Saturday, but the music is recycled classic rock during the week and the place rarely has more than a few people in it.

Welcome to B-more. My name is Lee. I was born and raised in Baltimore and now own a sliver of it myself. I will be your guide to Charm City. It's not as scary as The Wire makes it look, I promise. Plus, Baltimore is full of great food and drink and entertainment, all well seasoned with the peculiar brand of charm that gives Baltimore it's nickname. Hope you enjoy ...
