Baltimore Farmers' Market
The Baltimore Farmer's Market ...think street festival with vegetables.
The Market, located underneath the Jones Falls Expressway, at Holiday and Saratoga Streets (near City Hall) opened for the season, and was in full bloom Sunday. It has what you'd expect at a farmers' market- lots of vegetables, fruits, herbs, plants, mushrooms, flowers and farm related products like honey, smoked meats and sausages. There was a great buy on cheese from Hawks Hill Creamery and I found unusual and tasty red spring onions at one of the produce stands.
There's also a sizeable prepared food contingent with an omelet stand, breads and pastries, a "curry shack", pit beef, and coffee. A breakfast sausage sandwich from Ole Pioneer's Kitchen was delish.
If you are local, there are good prices on foods and plants that are obviously fresh. Strawberries and flowers were big yesterday. If you are from out of town, it is a neat way to see real people and local products. You can buy breakfast, or just wander around enjoying the sights and smells. And it's free.
The Market is open every Sundays from 8 a.m. until about noon, through December 23.
