First Thursdays

The Stage at First Thursday

WTMD’s First Thursday festival, held the first Thursday of every month during the spring, summer and early fall, hosted Eva Castillo and Julian Velard this time around.

I’d never been before, so I didn’t know to expect such an amazing time. The crowd was dominated by hip twenty and thirty somethings, but older folk and tykes strolled and careened amongst the crowd as well. As a single, I can’t imagine a better place to meet a potential someone than a relaxed outdoor festival like this.

The festival takes place in Mount Vernon, just to the west of the Washington Monument (ours was built first, D.C.!). As I lay on the cool grass looking up at the clouds and listening to Eva rock away I noticed that the Washington Monument has an observation deck. I’ll explore that soon and report, friends.

I biked up, as did dozens of others. I imagine many walked as well, but parking didn’t turn out to be too difficult, at least according to my car-bound friend Gilly.

Beer and crab cakes were for sale, but the music itself is absolutely free. Eva put on a good show, and Julian blew it away with his jazzy rock. Over all it was an amazing event. I encourage anyone who can to check it out next month. In the meantime, dial your radios over to WTMD. They’ve the best mix I’ve heard in a while, and I dare say WTMD may be a better radio station than Baltimore deserves.

Does anyone know who to get in touch with about performing at first Thursdays? I've tried every e-mail address provided on WTMD's website and no one will write me back. I love the station, am even a member, but can't figure out how to actually talk to someone.

Any help would be appreciated.
