Cross Street Market

Cross Street InteriorCross Street Market

Just south of the Harbor is one of Baltimore’s best local markets, Cross Street Market. Much of Cross Street is Noah’s arc style: two of everything. Two bakers, two produce stands, two meat and poultry stands, and two florists allow you to do a little leisurely comparison shopping. (If you’re looking for something more intense, try the larger Lexington market just north and west of the Harbor).

Cross Street also hosts Nick’s Seafood, which has huge drafts for four dollars, making it a very popular Friday happy hour spot. If you like oysters with your beer it’s the spot to be. I’ve met a few of the shuckers there and they’re champion level oyster splitters (and no slacks at drinking Guinness either).

A smoothie stand, a large fresh fish stall, a pretzel place, a pharmacy and a host of lunch stalls rounds out the market’s offerings. Parking is simple anytime before 6 p.m., either on the nearby streets or in the West Street garage just south of the market. After six parking is usually still available if you’re willing to circle a block once or twice.

If you need to hear any more gushing over Cross Street, just Google it. The place has quite the loyal following.

Cross Street Market is located on Cross Street between Light and Charles Street. It’s open Monday to Saturday from 7 till 7, and sometimes later on Friday and Saturday.
