Choice Vegetarian Options in Louisville

Louisville has an incredible dining scene. Ethnic foods, Southern staples, barbecue, fusion, brunch, steakhouses, you name it and Louisville has the genre covered, including vegetarian. The best entirely vegetarian menu in town is found at Zen Garden on Frankfort Avenue. But you don't have to go to a vegetarian restaurant to make sure the veggies in your party have delicious, innovative, healthy food to choose from. Here are breakfast, lunch and dinner options from 3 of Louisville's fantastic restaurants that make sure the vegetarians (and omnivores who enjoy healthy vegetarian food) leave the table happy. Lynn's Paradise Cafe offers an extremely funky decor and uniquely updated (sometimes unexpectedly so, check out the bourbon ball milkshake) comfort food that visitors to Louisville have loved for years. Lynn's is perhaps best known for its incredible breakfast/brunch menu. Cornmeal whole wheat pancakes, cinnamon swirl french toast, omelettes, home fries, cheese grits, and that much loved Southern staple biscuits and gravy. Lynn's standard gravy does contain sausage but for weekend brunch visitors a special vegetarian gravy is made. Thick, creamy, spicy and delicious the vegetarian gravy is a wonderful update on traditional biscuits and gravy.

North End Cafe offers a lunch menu full of healthy, fresh foods including many outstanding vegetarian dishes. My favorite though is the grilled vegetable sandwich. Zucchini, caramelized onion, roasted red pepper, fresh goat cheese, dijon, aioli and mixed greens all on wheat toast. Get it with a side of balsamic potato salad.

El Mundo has possibly the greatest guacamole in the world. I can't confirm this of course but its a strong suspicion. I mention this only to point out that the food at El Mundo is so good that the very-possibly world's greatest guacamole isn't my favorite item on the menu, the vegetable burrito is. Filled with cheese and delicious veggies of every sort, and wrapped in a soft flour tortilla it's a perfect dinner choice.
