Sunny side of Louisville summer fun
Stuff left to do this summer, if you're visiting the area:
The Knobstone Trail is a 58-mike hiking trail that, believe me, compares with anything the Applachians want to dish out: on a small scale. It's still a butt-kicker fun for the whole family. Some sections are aggressively rugged, and have too many switchbacks for kids, so preview the trail info on its website before heading out with young 'uns.
Jeffersonville's RiverStage is having free theatre, plays, entertainment, music, and talent competitions every weekend. RiverStage is run by one of my former dance teachers, Patty, formerly of Simmonds dancers in Jeffersonville. She's passed that business on to her children now, but she's a lady who knows how to put on a heck of a show. Check out the RiverStage if you're cruising the Indiana side of the River one lazy day soon.
Mount St. Francis holds its annual picnic on Aug. 25, and it's every bit as fun as an old-fashioned Catholic picnic oughtta be. There are some over-the-top crowded picnics in the Louisville area each summer, and many are not that family oriented, let's face it. Mt. St. Francis' picnic offers something for kids of all ages, but focuses nearly exclusively on the kids, so there's no chance of anyone having a bad time. In fact, you might just win a nifty hat at one of the many prize booths. I personally bid last year on a pair of pet rabbits, in my "good time" frenzy. Thank God, indeed, someone else won that auction!
More updates, coming soon...
