Downtown Campbellsville's Facelift
One and all can view the barren remnants of decades of original downtown buildings right on Main Street. Several buildings have been destroyed in order to make room for the new Justice Center in Campbellsville. Buildings sent to their “final resting spot” include the old Parks-Belk Department Store building and the building which most recently housed the Dollar General Store. Multiple industrial buildings, along with the previous Jeffries’ Feed and Seed location (which has moved to Carnation Street), have been obliterated to make way for the new Justice Center. Most amazing is the aura of vacuity that meets motorists as they approach Main Street from the south on Central Avenue. Now is a good time for tourists, or for those who are simply out for a reminiscent Sunday drive, to view this mini-“wasteland” before it begins to grow new buildings.
