Hotel Sofitel
Of all the great hotels in Chicago, I think that if I had to spend a night in a hotel I would choose Sofitel. For one thing, it is a beautiful and distinctive building. The architect, Jean Paul Viguier, designed it to be a contrast to the Hancock Building, which is a block away. While the Hancock is black and floors get smaller as they get higher, Sofitel is white with the upper floors that get larger as they get higher.
My friend Ryan comes to Chicago several times a year on business trips and he prefers Sofitel. The way he describes it, by the time he reaches the front desk, the doorman has radioed his name to the clerk and he is addressed by name from that time forward. He also likes the rooms, which are clean and bright, with interesting artwork. Ryan said that one day, he left the Sofitel and it was misting out, the doorman had a throwaway umbrella waiting for him. Plus, you are right in the middle of the near North Side, with Rush St. a block away.
