Summer Festivals in Chicago

The #1 reason that I can't stand to miss a summer in Chicago is the assortment of (usually) free, outdoor festivals that take place all summer long.  From art to music to rare antiques to food, a Chicago summer can be a feast for your senses.  Here is a short list of some of the Windy City's most famous fests, along with when and where you can find them this summer (in order of appearance):
1.  The Chicago Antique Market:  An Urban Treasure Hunt

May 26 & 27

1300 Block of West Randolph

2.  Chicago Gospel Music Festival: Come sing the praises of this public showcase, featuring some of the best Gospel music in the city and beyond.  If you leave without a smile on your face, there is something wrong with you.

June 1-3

Millenium Park

3.  Chicago Blues Festival:  Come see why Chicago sings the blues at this annual showcase.

June 7-10

Grant Park

4.  Fiestas Puertorriqueñas:  Possibly the liveliest, loudest, biggest party of the year, brought to you by Chicago's vibrant Puerto Rican community.

June 12-17, 2007

Humboldt Park, 1400 N. Sacramento Blvd.

5.  Chicago Pride Fest & Parade: Coming out can be great fun, even if you are straight.

June 23, 2007 (the Fest) Halsted at Waveland, 10am-9pm

June 24 (the parade)

6.  Chicago Country Music Festival:  This year features the great Kenny Rogers!

June 29 - July 1

Grant Park

7.  Taste of Chicago:  Chicago loves to eat, and at this festival you'll see why.  Sample some local classics all in one location.  The musical line-up this year includes the Black Crowes, John Mayer and Lyfe Jennings.  Don't miss the best fireworks show in town on the 3rd!

June 29 - July 8

Grant Park

8.  Pitchfork Music Festival:  An annual festival showcasing some of independent music's best bands on multiple stages.

July 13-15

Union Park, 1501 W. Randolph

9.  Viva Chicago Latin Music Festival:  Salsa, Samba, Merengue.. Need I say more?

August 25 & 26

various locations

10.  Chicago Jazz Festival:  This year's lineup features Herbie Hancock on opening night and  Medeski, Martin, Wood & Scofield on Friday!

August 30 - September 2

Grant Park
