Italian Shoes on Clark Street

The other day I stumbled upon Slithers, located at 2549 Clark Street. Slithers distributes for Manas, so all of the sometimes quirky, often goregous heels stacked up beneath a row of colorful handbags are Italian. Not to worry, the store's well-travelled owner, Mirek Hajduk, can translate your size into the Italian scale.

I've read that their return policy leaves something to be desired, so be careful. But I bought a ...

Old Town Charm on Wells Street

Find yourself in Chicago in nice weather with a few hours to spare?  Take a walk!

In the Old Town neighborhood, tree-lined streets, boutique shops, and one-of-a-kind restaurants wait for you.  Take the Brown Line to the Sedgwick stop.  Then, take North Avenue east to Wells St.  On your way, you will pass Fleet Feet sports, a huge running store for the serious (and not-so-serious) runner.  If you're in the market for running shoes, stop in, and ...

Suburban Mall-Hopping: Old Orchard

Technically it’s now called the Westfield Shoppingtown at Old Orchard, but this Skokie-based mall has always been Old Orchard around here and will probably always be so. Indoor malls are starting to go out of style, but Old Orchard is an outdoor mall and remains a pleasant, attractive place to shop—at least during the warmer months.

Old Orchard isn’t as much a teen hangout as some of the other places in ...

Correspondence is Cool

Eat your heart out Martha Stewart. Greer, a cute little boutique on Wells Street, has some the most creative and artistic paper items you’ll find. Everything is a little piece of art, from correspondence items to journals or keepsake trinkets.

Though a lot of the products are imported, the store also maintains a good selection of pieces made by local artists. One of my favorite items is their collection of pre-stamped ...

Indulge Your Naughty Inner Child at Rotofugi

I adore this store. I'll just come out and say it. I recently discovered the phenomenon of Dunny Azteca (www.kidrobot.com/) at a Rotofugi party and have been hooked ever since on collectible, limited edition toys. This store carries all kinds of these toys, and they're totally addictive.

So what, exactly, is Rotofugi all about? What are these toys, and what's so great about them? They're irreverent, quirky and supercute (and ...

Woodfield-- Shopper's Mecca

I recently moved from Minneapolis and spent a lot of time at the Mall of America, but did you know that the biggest mall in the United States by retail space is actually Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, IL? And in my opinion, Woodfield deserves as much recognition as a tourist shopping mecca as the MOA or State Street/Magnificent Mile in downtown Chicago.

What are you looking to buy? Because chances are you can buy it within the 1/2 mile radius of chain stores that surround Woodfield. Nordstrom, Lord and Taylor (until its demise next year), Macy's, Sears, and JC Penney anchor this mall. It holds all the typical stores that you expect to see in the mall-- Bannana Republic, Gap, JCrew, Express, and yes it does have both H&M and Forever 21.
