Wrigleyville after the game...

One of the most popular attractions in Chicago during the Spring and Summer months can be found off of the Addison stop on the Red Line at Wrigley Field, where the Chicago Cubs play their home games. However, the city has recently begun a massive infrastructure project to increase capacity on its ancient commuter train system, which has made the train a very unattractive option when traveling during rush ...

Music for a late Sunday night

From the "Off the Beaten Track" files:

Sunday nights can be a strange time of the week for vacationers because they don't have to go to work the next day while everyone who lives here does (for the most part). Finding fun things to do can be difficult for the those late night hours when vacationers are still in a fun frame of mind. Last Sunday, I found the ...

Discover New Music at Double Door

Double Door has a revered place in the Chicago music scene, and rightly so. I can remember back in the late ‘90s when the Rolling Stones made a surprise appearance there--at a place that holds probably no more than 500 standing fans. In the heart of the Wicker Park neighborhood, Double Door hosts lots of incredible bands--and many of them eventually get too big for this more intimate setting. This ...

Bungalow Lounge

Bungalow Lounge is located in Lakeview at the corner of Belmont and Ashland.  The bar is dimly lit with an orange glow and a constantly lit fireplace.  The crowd is mostly late twenty-something year-olds.  No food is served there but their Manhattan has been raved about on many sites.  There is a list of about 10 martinis from Blueberry to Mango.  Price list is very reasonable.  Great place to go ...

Impress Your Friends at the Signature Room

When we have friends visit us in Chicago, we'll often take them to the Signature Room at the 95th. That is, the 95th floor of the John Hancock Center on Michigan Avenue. As you might imagine, from that height the views are stunning. With its Art Deco vibe, dark wood, marble, huge windows and atmospheric lighting, it's a bit classier than just going to the skydeck where every tourist ends ...

Experience New and Exciting Live Music @ Metro

Metro has long been one of Chicago's best places to listen to live music. Since 1982, this venue has hosted (and debuted) bands like Naked Raygun, Depeche Mode, Ministry, Billy Idol, Smashing Pumpkins, The Killers and the White Stripes--mostly before they got big. Many of my friends have great stories about discovering bands here, or meeting their favorite musicians, or just having the time of their lives at a really ...

Places to Watch Da Bears in Super Bowl XLI

Chicago is a great sports town—you’ve heard it before, but it’s really true. And Bears fever has hit, so Super Bowl Sunday will be one big party in Chi-town. If you’re going to be here, you may as well join in. Every neighborhood sports bar is going to be full of fans. You can attend Super Bowl parties of any shape and size, from a bash at mostly-gay dance club ...
