Old Town Charm on Wells Street

Find yourself in Chicago in nice weather with a few hours to spare?  Take a walk!

In the Old Town neighborhood, tree-lined streets, boutique shops, and one-of-a-kind restaurants wait for you.  Take the Brown Line to the Sedgwick stop.  Then, take North Avenue east to Wells St.  On your way, you will pass Fleet Feet sports, a huge running store for the serious (and not-so-serious) runner.  If you're in the market for running shoes, stop in, and get your stride evaluated to get the perfect shoe for the way you run.  If you turn north on Wells Street, you will see Adobo Grill , an awesome mexican restaurant where the guacamole is tableside and the drinks come in coconut shells.  Specialty boutiques line Wells street both north and south of North Avenue - from fashion to pets to chocolate, there's something special in each store.  Check out Pulp and Ink's unique assortment of stationary and invitations.  Drop by the Fudge Pot and feast your eyes on all of the custom made chocolates, or take your pooch to The Furry Beastro for a treat.  Take Wells Street south to Zanies Comedy Club, and catch some stand-up laughs.  (Check the website for performance details).  If you're still in the mood for drinks after the comedy show, head south to the Fireplace Inn.  Fireplace has a spacious indoor/outdoor bar, which is essentially a permanent tent, perfect for those days when it's maybe a little rainy but still a pleasant temperature.   If you keep heading south on Wells from Fireplace, you will come to the Village Cycle Center, a huge bike shop.  Take a browse - there's a lot to look at even if you're not in the market for a new set of (bicycle) wheels.

Enjoy!  Wells Street/North Avenue is accessible from downtown via the Brown Line El, #156 and #173 buses.
