Try Out for "Survivor 16" Saturday at Brookfield Zoo

Did you know that the next "Survivor" season is being cast in the Chicago area this Saturday? Hundreds of (possibly insane) hopefuls will be at the Brookfield Zoo July 7 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for an open casting call. We're not exactly sure what the audition consists of--maybe an interview and some physical challenges of some kind? In any case, you have to be over 21 to participate, and you have to bring a completed online application (found here at http://cbs2chicago.com/contests). You should also bring a photo and a passport, or proof that you've applied for a passport. If you don't have an audition tape, don't worry, I'm told they'll have cameras there and the tapes will be sent directly to the casting department.

Former contestants Mookie Lee of "Survivor Fiji" and Gregg Carey from "Survivor Palau" are scheduled to attend the festivities too. So even if you don't want to participate--or if, like me, you're ineligible because you work for the zoo--you can still come and see what's going on and who showed up. Besides, there's always the animals to look at, from the rays at Stingray Bay to the birds and the gorillas.

Contenders will be allowed to enter the zoo's North Gate parking lot around 8:45 a.m. The zoo opens at 9:30 a.m. and all visitors can go in at that time. The North Gate is located off 31st Street and Golf View Road in Brookfield. To get to the zoo from downtown Chicago, take I290 west to First Avenue. Drive south on First Avenue until you see the zoo signs on your right. For more information about the zoo, including ticket prices and Metra directions, go to www.brookfieldzoo.org.
