Quench Your Thirst for Exotic Beer

If you find yourself drinking the same old domestic beer night after night and you're looking for something more adventurous, head to Quenchers Saloon on Fullerton and Western for a change.  Quenchers is an ordinary neighborhood bar that serves hundreds of unordinary beers from all around the world.  You can find affordable brews from places like Canada, Europe, India, Mexico, Peru, Africa, Thailand, and the US, just to name a few.  There's a different tap Beer of the Week every week for under $4.  This week it's Purple Haze --- a berry flavored wheat beer for $3.50.

When you walk in, you may feel bombarded with the extensive list of beers written on chalk boards above the bar, but you'll see that they're all carefully categorized according to where they're brewed.  If you don't know much about imported beer, tell the bartended what you like and he'll give you a few suggestions.  Or you can simply pick a country you like, ask about the beer they have listed, and go from there.  I tend to drink the cheap domestic bottles no matter where I go, but whenever I'm at Quenchers I make sure to try something new.  I was very pleased with my impulse selection the other night, an Indian pale ale called Maharaja.  It's a hoppy beer with a slightly sweet after taste.  Very nice.  Some of my standard selections include Lone Star (Texas), Peroni (Italy), Dead Guy (Oregan), Fiddler's Elbow (England), and Spaten Optimator (Germany).

Quenchers has live music gigs booked six days a week, a never-ending supply of free, freshly popped popcorn, a killer juke box, and a kitchen serving decent pub food until midnight.

The tater tots are a great appetizer.  Ask for "the works" and you'll get your tots topped with melted cheddar cheese, sour cream, bacon and chives.  The beef sandwich is pretty good, but for 6 dollars I expect a little more beef and less chips on the side.  The grilled cheese is awesome.  It comes with three cheeses, bacon, and tomato.  The specialty pizzas are good too if you catch them when they're the special because you get two personal pizzas for $10.  The Garden Pesto and BBQ Chicken pizzas are the best.

The live music generally starts after 10 pm in the back of the bar.  A great thing about Quenchers is that curtains are drawn and doors are closed to keep the sound in the music room for those customers who prefer to hear the juke box in the front of the bar.  Open mic nights are on Mondays and live Karoke is on Thursdays.  Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays are reserved for local bands.

The atmosphere is very laid back and the staff is friendly when they're not too busy.  The food is decent, but a little over priced for the quality.  The wide selection of tasty beers and good music is what you can't beat.

Enjoy!
