-- At Easter Time, enjoy The Candies Chicagoans prefer. Hailed as the Candy Capital of America, explore what Resident Chicagoans are placing in their deluxe Easter Baskets (in lieu of what the Easter Bunny plans on delivering) via ASK’s Top ‘Sweet 16’ Sweets’ List ©2004-2007.

-- The Countdown now stands at: 166 more Days till The All Candy Expo,1 Chicago’s ‘Sweetest Candy Convention’ ever imagined.

-- Segment #2 of an 8-Part Monthly Series about the Art & Act of Candy from A-Z. This Series usually appears on the Third Friday of the Month. However, due to the earlier Celebration of Easter, now rated as the Second most important CEO: Candy-Eating Occasion of the Year for Americans, it has been slightly altered for the Month of April. Because of this important Milestone for the Candy Industry and as a Staunch Supporter of anything dipped in Chocolate and rolled in Coconut and/or Nuts, this Segment has moved and pre-empted to satisfy the Sweet Teeth of all Denominations.

PART 1: When Candy Overtakes The Value of Old Time Religion

“Jellybeans, Choco-Bunnies and Peeps, Oh My!” What Candies Chicagoans are munching on for Easter ‘007.”

Quote of: ASK

Chicago is transformed into a Candy Land at Easter Time. Because of this Metamorphosis, People wonder if it’s become more of an Edible Event than one that is bound by Religious Implications. However, it’s viewed, there’s nothing better than seeing happy Faces as Kids (of all Ages) enjoy their Candy Finds – whether they find them in a big Field during an Easter Egg Hunt or walking and stalking the Aisles of a Grocers looking for special Treats for Dessert.

As “America’s Premier Eventologist’ (a Designation I received from Insight Magazine in Washington, DC in August of 1997), part of my Eco-Holidate ® Series states that it is a wise idea to celebrate ‘The Event’ a few Days after its scheduled Performance or Appearance. This Action allows the Sentiment and Spirit of ‘The Day’ to keep on flowing. It keeps the Meaning of the Traditional Holiday around longer. It also gives The Buyer – the Consumer – more time in which to purchase these Scrumptious Candy-fied Treats at Reduced Rates. Everyone loves a barGAIN!

Due to Competition, a General Trend (that was established about 5 years ago) was that Candy Sales (surrounding the major Holidays of Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter and Halloween) began their Cost Reduction Period 24-hours prior to the Arrival of the Event. For the poor People and those on fixed Incomes wishing to share in the Spontaneity of rash Buying, this Benefit also allowed this Cluster to participate and splurge.

“After all, if not for the Grace of G-d, you, too, could find yourself homeless and candy-less out on The Streets with not a Bar (Candy Bar, that is) to your Name. This is a Pathology none of us should have to bear.”

CHOCOLATE-COVERED EASTER LILLIES, DRESSES & BONNETS TO BOOT:

Easter Candying has taken on a Life of its very own. In 2007, Registers will ring up $2,000,000,000 in Easter Candy Sales.2 Surprisingly enough, not every American celebrates Easter with its joyous Accoutrements. To Atheists, Agnostics and non-Christians, Easter doesn't set the pace with them. Nevertheless, one Tell-Tale Sign (not a Bunny Tale in this instance) is for certain:

-- the ambrosial Flavor of Chocolate;
-- boyishly popping hands-full of Jelly Beans in one’s mouth; and
-- chomping off the mallow heads of those unsuspecting Peeps

are a much anticipated Ritual in these Households.

WHERE CHICAGOANS BUY THEIR CANDY:

“Buying Candy on the Web can be a Deterrent to gaining Weight,” I have found. “This is because only a certain Amount or Pounds of Candy is being purchased.” If you strolled into a Store and saw ALL THE CANDY in its festive Displays surrounded by towering Chocolate Bunnies, the Temptation would or could prove to be too overwhelming. Therefore, your Stomach would be(come) bigger than your Taste Buds. Your Teeth would rot. Morbid Obesity would set in. Every Day, growing Numbers of People are enjoying the Wonders of buying Online. In addition, buying Online saves Money and/or Gasoline from driving to the Store, Pharmacy, Candy Shop or wherever your Easter Sweets are purchased. It gives UPS and Federal Express Workers more work in delivering and keeps them gainfully employed. It saves the Online Buyer hours of extra and valuable Time that can be put to better use in other avenues.

Lore states Santa Claus brings Christmas Presents. Four Months later, the mild-mannered Easter Bunny distributes the Day’s Candies. With the Candy Business nearing the $2 billion for 2007, he can definitely hire Help to disburse those Treats.

Therefore, conducting our own Survey here at Chicagology 101 Central, it was found that:

CHICAGOANS’ TOP TEN ANNOYANCES ABOUT EASTER CANDY:4

1. Chicagoans highly disapprove of hollow Milk Chocolate Bunnies. That hollow and void Air-Space can be better utilized by filling the Space with more Candy Favorites.

2. Chicagoans despair when their Easter Eggs are so cleverly hidden they cannot be found easily.

3. Chicagoans demand professional Basket Makers to stuff more Candy than synthetic, pastel Easter Grass into their customized Baskets.

4. Chicagoans don’t like when those over-indulgent Parents buy their Kids live Pet Rabbits, only to set them loose in the Backyards two weeks later. Other Parents think those Bunnies should be scalped, charcoal broiled, peppered and eaten.

5. Chicagoans prefer Easter Candy Sales to escalating Retail Prices. Easter Candy Sales on the Day before Easter are coveted. Easter Candy Sales the Day after Easter are better still. No matter what their Denomination, in-seam length, weight or Candy preference, We like to have our Easter Candy and eat it, before, during and after the Event.

6. Chicagoans like those plastic Easter Eggs and Faux-Faberge Eggs, stuffed with Wads of Big Bills, Gift Certificates or Winning Lottery Tickets.

7. Chicagoans prefer tall, steep and deep Easter Baskets in which to place their Stash.

8. Chicagoans abhor low-cal, diet Easter Candy that tastes clearly like low-cal, diet Easter Candy.

9. Chicagoans are puzzled at Easter Bunnies that are not anatomically correct.

10. Nobody wants a Blind Bunny in his or her Easter Basket. Chicagoans hate it when the Candy Button Eyes fall out. Who wants a Blind Bunny in their Basket?

REGARDLESS OF ANY ANNOYANCES NOT YET IRONED OUT BY THE CANDY INDUSTRY @ LARGE:

Easter is a Big Hit for Chicagoans in 2007, as it was in previous years and hop-fully in the decades to follow. With Tastes like these, Chicago-at-Easter is where when you should be celebrating Easter of 2007. Tell your Travel Agent, the Easter Rabbit sent you.

THE MOST LOGICAL ENDING ANALYZING THE MIXED MESSAGES RECEIVED FROM THE CANDY INDUSTRY:

“Every year, there is an increasing Demand in Holiday Candy as People’s Waists widen. Health Experts fear it. Broads get broader. Diabetes skyrockets. Good Health is diminished. Retail only feeds into this deadly Plan and Frenzy as others uselessly fight the(ir) Battle of the Bulge. Resolutions made each December are broken each January. As Irony shifts, for those Individuals who don't consume Easter Candy, that's a Big Plus. It leaves more Candy for those Devotees! To uncomplicated matters, due to The Wonders of Modern Photography, those beautiful Images of Candies can be preserved for an Eternity without even having to set Appointments with your Dentist or Personal Trainer.”

The CONDO-ization of Religion.
A Critical Look at how Judaism & Christianity are systematically destroying their very Roots via Capitalism and Greed at this most Holy Time of Year. An unstoppable Dynamic is undermining the Two Religions here in Chicago. With People now appreciating other’s Religions through the various Homes of Worship they have built, can Bigotry be erased?

Hi Adrienne,

I was on a google search and found you here... Sweet!
How would you like to join Linda Mensch & I to see one
of our jazz clients at Carmine's on Rush on Friday, April 13th?
I heard there was an article you had posted about the music
scene in the early 80s... A friend of mine said it mentioned me.
Love to see it! Still plugging away at media & marketing in the
music, literary & film industry.
Hope to hear from you.
Best,
Lynn Orman
