The Statue of Kapo
Well, it's not a very big attraction, but there is a really neat statue of the goddess Kapo in Kapolei.
The city of Kapolei got it's name from the Goddess Kapo, sister of the much more well-known goddess Pele. Kapolei is located around a prominent blunt hillside. From the Ewa plain where the traditional, pre-western capital of Oahu was located, the hillside marked the setting sun during solstice. This event held agricultural significance. The halo of the sun around the hillside was considered Kapo's lei, or adornment (leis are worn on the head as well as the neck).
If you are interested in Hawaiian history and mythology, the statue is an interesting stop. It is located on the corner of Farrington Highway and Kamokila Blvd.
I happened to take this photo in January, about a month after solstice and before I knew about the story.
