Onelua Beach Park

Even with throngs of tourists, Oahu has plenty of secluded beaches, each with a different character. Near Ewa is Onelua Beach Park. It's a long thin strip of sand punctuated with worn-down lava rock formations. Onelua has a great view of Honolulu and Diamondhead in the distance.

Onelua Beach

Onelua is not the best for swimming, there are no life guards, but it is suitable for ocean kayakers and experienced surfers. For the rest of us, Onelua offers a peaceful walk on the beach free of trash and noise. I've noticed that some locals just like to sit in the car and watch the relaxing surf.

Since the beach is oriented east to west, visit at sunset and you'll be treated to a gorgeous sunset behind a silhouette of palm trees.

To reach Onelua Beach Park from Kapolei, take Farrington Highway east to Fort Weaver Road, then turn right at Papipi Road. Follow Papipi until it terminates at Onelua. From Honolulu, take the H1 freeway west to Fort Weaver Road, exit 7. You will need to exit north, then u-turn a head south to Papipi Road. There's always plenty of parking, but the lot is a bit rough so be careful if your vehicle has low clearance.
