Genki Sushi

If you are a fan of good sushi, especially cheap, good sushi, you need to visit a Genki Sushi. The chain based in Japan, has several restaurants on the island of Oahu.

The main attraction, other than the reasonable price, is the sushi train. An unfamiliar delight to most Americans, a sushi train is a conveyor belt that snakes through the restaurant carrying plates of various types of sushi on color coded dishes. Each color specifies a different price point, so it is really easy to control how much you spend. The fun though lies in watching the variety of dishes pass by and deciding which ones to try.

Genki Sushi touts itself as a family friendly restaurant, and so it is. The sushi train is as engaging for fidgety youngsters as it is for adults who would be embarrassed to admit it. In addition to a wide variety of sushi, deserts, miso soup, and a variety of beverages can be ordered.

Even though the sushi is self-serve, there are still wait staff to help out, and a gratuity will be expected.

The best item on the menu in my opinion is the ahi poke sushi - basically the Hawaiian spiced version of a tuna roll.
