Kalapawai Delis
The Kalapawai Delis are two excellent places to eat. They serve deli food with a local flavor that, as we say in Hawaii, will "broke da mouth". I particularly like the smoked salmon open faced sandwiches. Their BBQ Chicken pizza was special, with a crisp, thin crust and savory chicken and cheese topping. They serve family style and dinner for three cost us around $20 not including the wine. Fine wines seem to be a house specialty.
There where a dozen tables including several outside and during Sunday night wine tasting, 2nd & last Sunday of the month, a bunch of people are always visiting around the small bar. Conversation can cause an excited hubbub.
Location: One deli is located at the entrance to Kailua Beach Park and the other is in a small green building with white trim located at the Pali Hwy entrance to Kailua. Make a left turn at the traffic light that is immediately accross the bridge and then an immediate right turn into a side street. Their parking lot is on your right. 750 Kailua Rd & 306 S. Kalaheo Ave, Kailua.
They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and are definately worth stopping by.
