Kualoa Country Store
When you're driving counterclockwise around the island of Oahu and leave Kaneohe you're starting the most beautiful drive on Oahu. A few miles outside of Kaneohe you'll find the Waikane store. It is a local gem that you will fly past in the blink of an eye if you're not watching carefully. For over a hundred years, this country store has been making the finest Korean chicken and sushi on Oahu.
It's a store that no local goes past if it's anywhere near lunch time. We all know that we'll probably have to stand in line and may have to wait for the chicken to come out of the oven, but it's worth it.
The little hut next door sells locally grown produce and specially designed tiles. It's a funny combination, but it's what they like to do. Stop and get acquainted. They're located at 48-377 Kamehameha Highway. The phone is 808-239-8522 in case you get lost.
Buy some sushi and chicken at the Waikane store and a bunch of apple bananas at the hut. Drive on up to Kualoa Regional Park, find a table and have the best picnic lunch you'll find anywhere.
